Join us as we look for new ways to view and appreciate architecture around downtown Dallas. We will consider different ways of photographing structures, including fully walking around the building to look for surprises and to examine how it changes the photography narrative. We will also discuss how sunlight affects the photography ideas we get and the quality of our architectural shots.

Instructor Nikola Olic is highly regarded structural photographer and has been featured in New York TimesThe Washington PostBBC News, and The Dallas Morning News.

This class series is for all levels of photographers using any camera – smartphone, DSLR, mirrorless, film.

We’ll start this three-part class series with an in-person class at Dallas Center for Photography. We’ll then head to downtown Dallas immediately following the class for the photo walk. Our instructor will be there to answer questions, offer suggestions, and give some feedback on your photos. After the photo walk, attendees will be able to walk around the area independently.

A few days after the photo walk, we’ll meet ONLINE via Zoom for an image review of your photos.

  • Cost per person is $65.
  • This is a three-part series;
    • The in-person class will be Saturday, August 20 from 1pm-3pm held at Dallas Center for Photography.
    • The photo walk will immediately follow the in-person class on Saturday, August 20 from 3:30pm-5:00pm.
    • A few days after the photo walk, we’ll meet ONLINE via Zoom on Monday, August 22 from 6:00pm-7:30pm CT for an image review of your photos.
  • For the photo walk, you’ll meet up with the instructor at a specified location in downtown Dallas. We’ll spend the afternoon walking, talking and shooting photos. You’ll be encouraged to keep shooting on your own the next few days and submit images for the image review.
  • Masks are recommended but not required when at DCP. Please see our updated COVID policy.
  • Advance registration and payment is required.
  • Maximum number of students is 15. Minimum number of students is 8.

Q: Do I need to wear a mask for the in-person class and on-location photo walk?

Q: What do I need for the photo walk?

  • Any camera will do.
  • A charged battery and room on your memory card.
  • The right shoes and clothes for the weather. An umbrella if needed.

Q: Are there previous requirements for this photo walk?
A: This class series is for all levels of photographers looking for new ways to compose and create unique images.

Q: How will I know if a class makes or not?
A: If a class doesn’t make and has to be cancelled, you will receive an email no later than 2 days before the scheduled class date.

Q: What if I have to cancel?
A: If you cancel 7 days or more ahead of the scheduled date of the class, you will receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee. A cancellation between 5 to 7 days ahead of scheduled date will receive 50% refund minus a $25 administrative fee. There is no refund or transfer credit for cancellations within 4 days of start time of the class or workshop. Full details on cancellations are on our Policies page.

Q: Where is the in-person class and photo walk held?
A: The in-person class will be at Dallas Center for Photography. The photo walk will be in the downtown Dallas. The instructor will provide more details about meeting place and time in an informational email sent out a few days before the class.
