This workshop is held at DCP from 10:00am-1:00pm. Registration Fee: $150

DCP instructors will lead students through the historic process of creating imagery using photosensitive printing paper and objects! One of the oldest forms of photography, lumen prints need only the sun to make photo magic. This is a different process than cyanotypes and yield images with color accents and fine detail. You’ll learn to make the lumen prints archival, both chemically & by scanning digitally. No photographic experience is required, just a bit of imagination & a sunny day! The results can be wonderfully serendipitous.

Objects to print will be provided but you’re encouraged to bring any small items or botanicals to create compositions. We supply all materials for you to take home 8-10 prints.

  • The cost of the workshop is $150
  • Maximum number of students is 12.
  • Advanced registration and payment is required.
  • The workshop is at Dallas Center for Photography (4756 Algiers Street, Dallas, TX 75207) in our darkroom. Room is equipped with safety stations, ample ventilation and PPE.
  • The workshop will take place from 10am-1pm.
  • Doors open at 9:30am.
  • Parking is available in the DCP lot or along Algiers St.
  • Some of the workshop may take place in our back parking lot so please bring appropriate clothing for indoors & outdoors.
  • Aprons and non-latex gloves will be provided.
  • All materials will be provided. If you have materials you would like to experiment with you are welcome to bring them!

Q: How late can I sign up for a workshop?
A: As long as the workshop doesn’t show as “sold out,” you can register up until 5:00pm the day before the workshop date.

Q: Is lunch included in the workshop?
A: No, lunch will not be provided, but feel free to bring a snack.

Q: I’m under 18. Can I take the classes or workshop?
A: Yes, but only if an adult registers to take the classes with you.

Q: How will I know if a workshop makes or not?
A: If a class doesn’t make and has to be cancelled, you will receive an email no later than the night before the scheduled class date.

Q: What if I have to cancel?
A: If you cancel 7 days or more ahead of the scheduled date of the class, you will receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee. A cancellation between 5 to 7 days ahead of scheduled date will receive 50% refund minus a $25 administrative fee. There is no refund or transfer credit for cancellations within 4 days of start time of the class or workshop. Full details on cancellations are on our Policies page.

Whitney J. Daude-Willis

Originally from Ding Dong, Texas, Whitney assisted her parents in loading their 35mm cameras with film in hotel rooms on vacation from a young age. She received her BFA in Art, with a concentration in Photography, from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2017. After graduation, she accepted the Photo Lab Coordinator position at UTA, assisting students in navigating lighting studios, digital print labs, an alternative process lab, and a black and white darkroom. More passionate for the black and white darkroom, Whitney has found that the safelights have proven to be a safe space since graduation. Since 2015, she has assisted instructor and photographer Scott Hilton in professional projects. Additionally, she assisted both renowned wet plate photographer Lisa Elmaleh in tintype workshops and Alan Ross in fine art printing during their DCP workshops.
