- This is one of several shots I took at the Changsha Children’s Welfare Institute in China. I guess we were both peering at each other through a lens of sorts.

- I saw this young cowboy out for his morning ride at the orphanage. I didn’t realize it when I took the picture, but the door next to him resembles a barn gate, which is appropriate, I suppose, if you’re going to be riding a horse.

- This little girl seems both apprehensive and concerned as she plays with a fellow child growing up in the Changsha orphanage. It seems such a young age to be feeling these grown-up emotions, and your heart just goes out to these kids.

- These two boys were spending part of their day walking the halls of the Changsha orphanage. To me, this image represents some of the loneliness these children must feel waiting for someone to love them and give them a forever home.

- Who says you have to sit in a chair? This little boy was perfectly content and comfortable to take his spot next to the chair. Maybe he was saving it for a friend or the caregiver next to him.

- One of the things I like about China is that you sometimes see things that just aren’t as common here anymore. These hanging rags on wash day caught my eye.

- I saw this shopkeeper in China taking a break and snapped this photo before he noticed me or could offer any objections. He didn’t seem to mind, but I didn’t push my luck by trying to take more photos.
