Photo Walk: Holiday Lights

Enjoy the holiday season with a guided photo walk through Addison's Vitruvian Lights.
Upcoming Photo Walk

Online Class: Dec 10 / Photo Walk: Dec 12
There will be an ONLINE meeting on December 10 from 6-7pm CST prior to the walk. The photo walk will be December 12 from 5-7pm. Cost per person is $35. This photo walk is free for the first 7 DCP members to register. The free ticket will be under Membership/Account Details/My Membership/Event Tickets.

It can be tricky to capture the magic (and the correct exposure) of colorful holiday lights. Join our DCP instructor and your fellow photographers on a photo walk through Addison’s Vitruvian Lights and have fun trying some different techniques and sharing results with your fellow photographers. The lights at Vitruvian are plentiful, beautifully colored, and the trees line a waterway that opens up all kinds of photographic possibilities. A creative shot of lights can make a great holiday card!

A few days before the photo walk we’ll meet online for a brief Zoom session to go over logistics. Your instructor will give you some ideas of what to expect and photography tips to get you ready.

The evening of the photo walk we’ll gather at the designated meeting point in Addison’s Vitruvian Park. We’ll spend two hours walking, talking and shooting photos of the park’s extensive light displays.

YOU MUST MAINTAIN A SAFE SOCIAL DISTANCE AND A MASK IS MANDATORY WHENEVER YOU’RE NEAR THE INSTRUCTOR OR OTHERS IN THE GROUP. There are no exceptions. If you don’t plan to wear a mask and to follow these guidelines then please don’t register for this class.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR ON-LOCATION SHOOTING:
  • A mask! See above. The instructor will not assist a student who is not wearing a mask covering both their nose and mouth.
  • A DSLR, mirrorless, compact camera or smartphone. Any camera will do!
  • A tripod would be very helpful, although we will try some handheld techniques as well.
  • Basic knowledge of your camera. If you use a DSLR or mirrorless, our Beginner Digital Photography series (or similar) is a recommended prerequisite.
  • A charged battery and room on your memory card.
  • The right shoes and clothes for the weather. An umbrella if needed.
